Thessaloniki: Film Festival 2012 / Tribute to Theo Angelopoulos

He was born on the 27th April 1935 and lived for approximately 77 years. During this time he saw the world differently from everybody else. The internationally well-recognised director Theo Angelopoulos drew his last breath on the 24th January 2012.

The Greek filmmaker directed over 20 films that conceived more recognition internationally than in his own country. He received the Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival for his film Eternity and a Day, as a wide range of other awards from film festivals such as the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the International Film Festival Berlin „Berlinale“ and the Venice International Film Festival.

As he liked to say, it didn’t matter how people received his films, he only wanted to make his films as he saw them. We will remember him exactly like this: a different and exceptional character with an amazing cinematographic eye and timeless films.

The Thessaloniki International Film Festival is organising a special tribute to the director in his memory and invites you to the following events:

Fact of the day: A walk to Warehouse C is a must-do this year: The festival’s cafeteria makes amazing coffee, provides you with free internet access and a great festival mood. In the evening the café turns into a bar with groovy music, drinks and snacks for the ever-hungry stomach.
